LaShay leads the Metro school’s admissions program, responsible for recruiting and admitting students to all of Metro’s undergraduate and graduate programs, separate from the university’s admissions department. Metro admits students three times annually, for spring, fall and summer terms.
“This requires hard work, of course, but also keen judgment, flexibility in the face of the unexpected, and emotional intelligence,” Metro Dean Vincent Kiernan said during the university ceremony in Heritage Hall. “Her leadership has enabled the Metropolitan School to enroll more than 200 undergraduate students through the DC government’s DC Futures scholarship program, helping to both change lives and earn the university $1.5 million in new tuition revenue – and counting. Through her hard work and strong example, she is helping the university move toward growth and advancing the university's mission as well.”
LaShay began a career in education in 2005, as an Education Consultant for Sylvan Learning Center. She continued her career at an education technology company, 2U Inc. for 4 years supporting the University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education by training new staff on programs, and facilitating virtual marketing events. LaShay’s passion for education continued as a Program Director for Baltimore County Public Schools, and classroom teacher for Baltimore City Public Schools district. LaShay holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from Goucher College and a Bachelor of Science concentrating in Education and Psychology. She joined Metro as an admissions counselor in 2017 and later that year rose to the position of director of admissions.
